Mike Brown and Brad Lebo Win 2000 Virginia Tour
Team-Person Team Championship
26 August 2000 - Richmond, VA - A better-ball round of 18 by
Bart Bason and Rusty Taylor was just one of the highlights of the 2000
Virginia Team Championship. Defending champions, Buddy Taylor and Dave Taylor,
were after their third consecutive win in the event. The 2000 event also saw
the number of teams increase from five teams in 1999
Virginia Team Championship to ten teams.
The first round of better-ball saw a perfect round shot by
Bart Bason and Rusty Taylor to take a one shot lead over Darrell Anderson and
Danny Dore who fired an opening round 19. The second round of alternate-shot
saw the team of Brad Lebo and Mike Brown make a strong move with a round of
21, 15-under par, bettering their better ball round of 23 and moving them into
contention. The final rounds two rounds were combined medal-play scores of
both team members and once again saw low scores.
Mike Brown and Brad Lebo moved into the lead with rounds of 25
and 23 to take a one stroke lead over the team of Manfred Stewart and Gilbert
Sharpe who shot rounds of 22 and 24. The final round saw Mike Brown open up by
making the first 11 holes and close with a final round of 20, narrowly missing
the 18th hole to miss a 19. Brad Lebo's final round of 26 was more than enough
for the Brown/Lebo team to post a convincing 7 stroke victory. In second place
was the team of Ed Grajewski and Kevin Garrett who surged into second place
with final rounds of 23 and 24. In a tie for third were the team of Rick Baird
and Peter Neumann and the team of Manfred Stewart and Gilbert Sharpe who
faltered in the final round to fall into a third place tie.
In the amateur team championship, Steven Jones and Wayne
Saunders posted a two stroke victory over Jonathan Moore and Wesley Pollard.
Jones and Saunders posted a score of 148 to claim the 2000 Virginia Amateur
Team Championship.
The Virginia Tour is next in action on Sunday, August 27th, at
the Richmond, VA course to contest the 2000 Virginia Putting Classic.
Defending champion, Kevin Garrett, looks to defend his 1999
Virginia Classic Title.
