Dave Taylor Wins 2000 Virginia Putting
Classic by Five Strokes
Richmond,
VA - 27 August 2000 - The 2000 Virginia Putting Classic was contested on
the Richmond, VA Putt-Putt Golf Course that has seen low scores for over 20
years. Under overcast skies and a threat of rain, Dave
Taylor kept focused on the goal at hand. Opening rounds of 23 and 22 gave
Taylor a three stroke lead at the halfway point in the tournament. A third
round of 26, 10-under par, allowed many players back into the tournament with
the fourth round to be played. Dave Taylor and Darrell Anderson were tied at
71, 37-under par, with a group of three players, Ed Grajewski, Peter
Neumann, and Thomas
Rawles, tied for third at 73, 35-under par.
Dave Taylor regained the form of his first two rounds and
fired 12 consecutive aces to open the fourth round. Missing the thirteenth
hole, Taylor made two of the last five holes for a final round of 22 and a
four round total of 93, 51-under par. The PPA four round world record, set in
1999 in Fayetteville, NC by Mike Brown, of 90 was challenged but held, this
time. Word of Taylor's start in the fourth round spread across the course and
appeared to affect many of the players chasing him for the Virginia Putting
Classic Title. Darrell Anderson, tied with Taylor entering the final round
could do no better than 27, 9-under par, for a four round total of 98,
46-under par. Ed Grajewski, tied for third entering the final round, fired a

fourth were Ken Cook and Peter Neumann at 100, 44-under par. There was a
four-way tie for sixth with Mike

tenth at 102, 42-under par.
