Sharpe Wins For Second Time in 2000 on
Virginia Tour

May 2000 - Fredericksburg, VA - Cool overcast weather greeted the players on
their first of three trips to the Fredericksburg, VA course. With the course
wet and a misting rain most of the day, the scoring was low.
Gilbert
Sharpe opened the tournament with a 25, 11-under par, to take a slim
one-stroke lead over four other professionals in the field. Sharpe's second
round of 23 gave him a two-round total of 48 and a four stroke lead over Mike
Brown, his nearest rival. Sharpe's final round of 27 gave him a three
round total of 75 and a three-stroke victory over Mike Brown who held on to
his second place position with a final round 26. The
tournament also marked the return to tournament competition for two Virginia
State tour professionals, Danny
Dore
and Peter
Neumann, who were making their first appearance of the year.
In the amateur division, Steven Jones posted a wire-to-wire victory with
rounds of 25, 29, and 26 for a three round total of 80 and a two-stroke
victory over Bill
Garrett. Rounding out the top five in the amateur division
were Jonathan
Moore, Wayne
Saunders, and Ken Schooler.
The Virginia Tour plays again on Sunday, May 21st, at the Fredericksburg,
VA course. The Virginia tour will play its next full weekend on June 3rd and
4th in Charlottesville, VA. The tournament on Sunday, June 4th, in
Charlottesville is the Dogwood Festival Open being defended by Gilbert
Sharpe who won the 1999
Dogwood Festival Open in sudden-death over Peter Neumann.
