Greg Newport Avenges Playoff Lost to Win on Sunday in Fredericksburg, VA

13 August 2000 - Fredericksburg, VA - Greg Newport avenged an earlier playoff lost to Danny Dore on Saturday by winning Sunday in Fredericksburg. Newport started the event with an opening round 22 to lead by four shots over Dore, and was backed up with a 30 but still led by two before cruising to his second win in Virginia this season.

After losing to Dore in the playoff on Saturday, Newport wound up being the only player to break the score of 80 for the weekend as he fired a final round 27 to win by two shots over Rusty Taylor at 79. Newport won his only other tournament this season also breaking 80, with a playoff win in Durham. Taylor shot a final round 25 to finish at 81 for second.

Jonathan Moore won for the first time this season with the final two rounds of 25 and 24 to win by four shots over newly crowned APA National Champion Wesley Pollard. Moore trailed by four shots to reigning state champion, Malcolm Shumaker before making a stellar charge. Moore ended up with a final tally of 80 in his win, while Pollard finished at 84, which included a final round 23. Steven Jones, who had the two round lead, finished third at 85.
