Danny Dore Captures Win in Fredericksburg, VA

Danny Dore won his first tournament in Virginia in 2000 by defeating Greg Newport in a playoff for first. Dore
had the lead in the tournament until Greg Newport came back with a final round 25 to force
the playoff. But Dore won in the playoff continuing to play strong the whole afternoon on
this unseasonable and less humid afternoon.
Dore opened the tournament with a 27 to lead by one shot over Newport and
five other players. Then, he fired a stellar second round 26 to take a one-shot lead over
Mike Brown and by three over Newport. Newport came back with the tournament low of 25 to
tie Dore.
Amy Smith won her second straight Virginia
tournament, and the first outside of Richmond in her career with a final score of 85.
Smith had to come from one back of second round leader Jonathan Moore in capturing her
third career win and of 2000. Moore ended up second in the field with a score of 86 while
Matt Coghill finished in third at 87.
Brown finished third for the 20-player
pro division field with a score of 83. Darrell Anderson and Kevin Garrett rounded out the
top five in Fredericksburg on Saturday each shooting 84 for a tie for fourth. Ten spots
were paid out in the tournament with a score of 88 getting a two-way split for the final
spot. Five spots were paid out in the APA Division.
The Virginia tour will play again this Sunday, August 13 in Fredericksburg, on Course 3
at 11:00am. After that, their next weekend event will be in Richmond in two weeks on
Course 3 for the Virginia Pro/Am Teams Championship and Putting Classic.
