Matt Summey Post First Professional
Victory
3 June 2000 - Charlottesville, VA - Youth was the key to success this day in
Charlottesville, VA on the Virginia tour. Two of the youngest professionals
on the Virginia Tour opened the event with rounds of 27, 9-under par, on the
difficult Charlottesville, VA course. Matt Summey continued his hot play
with a second round 28 to open up a three stroke lead on Thomas Rawles who
fired a second round 27.
Summey's final round of 31 was more than enough to hold off Rusty Taylor
who closed with a final round of 29, 7-under par, but still finished two
strokes behind the winner, Matt Summey. The win was Matt Summey's first as a
professional on the Virginia Tour and ups his prize money total for 2000 to
$278 and moves him closer to a berth on the 2000 Virginia Clayton Cup team.
