Allen Wall Defeats Todd Fowler in Playoff at Rock Hill, SC

16 April 2000 - Rock Hill, SC - Allen Wall needed a final round of 25 to overcome a three-shot lead that Todd Fowler had over Wall. Wall's final round coupled with Fowler's 28 enabled the two players to go in the first 18-hole playoff in the 2000 South Carolina PPA season. Wall defeated Fowler to give himself his first win since winning on his home course in Forest City back on July 25, 1999, and his first win in Rock Hill since winning the inaugural Palmetto Classic in 1997.

Billy Caudle held off a late charge from Chris Hudson to win the APA division by one stroke. Caudle and Brian Hutchins had the lead at 57, and up by four on Hudson before Hudson himself fired a final round 25 to close the gap. Caudle, 1998 South Carolina APA champion out-dueled the reigning South Carolina APA champion Hutchins 28-30 to win by one shot at 85. Hudson wound up second at 86, while Hutchins finished at 87.

After the two pros finished 1-2 in the playoff with both shooting 82 in regulation, a three-way tie for third was in place with Dan Anders, Darrell Britt, Saturday's winner, and Rob Smarzik finishing two shots off the pace at 84. Thirteen spots were paid out in this event with the score 88 placing for a 3-way split for one spot.

Wall took both the South Carolina PPA State Qualifying and Match Play Spots to be held later in the year. Greg Newport then had to face off Fowler for the two-day qualifying spot in which Newport won that.

The next South Carolina tournament will be in Anderson this coming Saturday, April 22, at 10:00am. There will be two tournaments that day on Course 2, with the second tournament being approximately one hour after the preceding tournament.
