Gilliland Rules Rain and Sweeps Richmond, IN Events
6 August 2000 - Columbus, IN - Shawn Gilliland of Indianapolis fired a 19 under par 125 on the rain soaked carpets in Richmond to win his second tour event in a row. Gilliland fired scores of 31, 30, 29 and 35. Charlie Greenwalt of Indianapolis finished second just 2 strokes back with a 17 under par 127. Gilliland trailed Don Featherstone of Terre Haute by one shot after the first round. Featherstone finished 4th. In match play, Gilliland defeated Greenwalt in the 36 hole final for the victory.
John Howard of Terre Haute shot consistent rounds of 34, 34, 33 and 35 to take the top spot in Richmond. Howard opened up a nice lead when Mike Lebeda of Terre Haute shot a 41 and Tim Schrader of St. Mary's Ohio shot a 42. Howard was then able to play conservative rounds to claim the victory. In match play Howard earned a first round bye and then swept through the field defeating Sean Tompkins of Richmond in the 36 hole final.
