Jody Comer's Back, Wins After Twenty Years Away From Game

13 August 2000 - Indianapolis, IN - Call it the greatest come back in Putt-Putt Tournament history. Jody Comer of Indianapolis had not played in a Putt-Putt tournament since he was 16 years old. Now some 20 years later, he picks up his putter and wins the Indiana Tour stop at 34th Street in Indianapolis by 10 shots. Comer opened with an 11 under par 25 and never looked back shooting rounds of 25, 30, 30 and 27 to score a 112, 10 shots better than Shawn Gilliland of Indianapolis. Comer, excited about his victory, says he'll be back for this weekends State Championship in Indianapolis.

It was a very good day for Charlie Greenwalt of Indianapolis. After winning the Richmond stop on the Great Lakes Tour Greenwalt traveled the 100 miles and arrived in time for match play at Indianapolis. Subbing for the injured Tom Gross who had earned the match play spot, Greenwalt swept through 3 matches defeating Jody Comer 2 up, Jim Garrison 2 up and Jim Bryant in the 36 hole final 4 up. It was Greenwalt's first match play win on the Indiana Tour.

Bill Hammons started strong and was able to hold on and win the Indianapolis Amateur Stop on the Indiana Professionals Putters Tour. Bill carded rounds of 28, 33, 34 and 31 to total an 18 under par 126 and take a one shot victory over Amateur Points Leader John Howard of Terre Haute. The win is Hammons 3rd on the 2000 Tour. He carded victories in Terre Haute and Columbus, that's 3 out of the last 4 tournaments.

Donny Quigley has earned respect on the 2000 Indiana Professionals Putters Tour as a good "Match Play" putter. He picked up his second match play title of the season in Indianapolis defeating Amateur Points Leader John Howard of Terre Haute on the first hole of sudden death in the 36 hole final. After finishing 4th in the stroke play event Quigley defeated Chuck Gulley of Terre Haute and Jim Miser of Indianapolis to advance to the match play finals. Brody Evans of Terre Haute won the Novice Division.
