Jim Cruse Wins First Event of 2000 on Great Lakes Tour
29 April 2000 - Willoughby, OH - Jim Cruse pulled out an impressive win on Saturday firing rounds of 23, 27, and 26 for a score of 76. Jim won the tournament by 4 strokes over local favorite and former TV contestant Bill Thompson.
Former APA National Medal Play Champion Don Ferrell defeated Andy McCoy in a playoff. Don fired rounds of 27, 28 and 27 for a score of 82. After 2 rounds Don was three strokes down to Mike Conklin. John Darst won the match play event defeating Mike Bell.
Jim Heikkinen kept Jim Cruse from sweeping both events on Saturday by winning the match play event. Jim qualified for the match play by winning one of three spots in a playoff and he kept his momentum throughout the match play.
The Great Lakes Tour’s next event is on Sunday April 30, 2000. The tournament will feature medal play and match play for the top 16 qualifiers. The tournament will begin at 09:30 on Sunday.
