Alessi faced a putt on the 36th hole of his
match against Paul
Johns to win the 2000 Great Lakes Tour
Championship and the $1,300 first place prize.
After Paul Johns missed, grazing the right
edge of the cup, Rick stroked his putt into the
center of the cup for the victory. Paul Johns
runner-up finish was worth $800.
Rick Alessi advanced to the final match by
defeating Rich Gillooly in the finals of the
match-play portion of the Great Lakes Tour
Championship played on Saturday in Charleston.
Paul Johns advanced to the final match by firing
an amazing 100 for four rounds on Sunday to post a
nine stroke victory over his nearest competitor, Bill
Thompson.
The Great Lakes Tour also announced its 2000
Clayton Cup Team that will contest for the Clayton
Cup in Richmond, Virginia on October 14 and 15.
The team features Rich Gillooly, Dave Nutini, Todd
Viau, Gene Reams, Paul Johns, Mike O'Rourke, Kevin
Lacey, Rick Alessi, Jim Cruse, and Rod Miller.
