Todd Viau Wins For First Time in 2000 on
Great Lakes Tour in Columbus, OH
16 July 2000 – Columbus, OH –
Todd Viau won his first tournament of 2000 by
defeating Paul
Johns in a 21-hole playoff. Todd after two rounds had shot a score of 48
and lead first round leader Dave
Nutini by 3 shots and Paul was 4 shots back. In the final round Paul Johns
shot a final round score of 24 and was able to tie Todd at 77, 31-under par.
In the playoff Todd led by 3 shots after the front nine was completed, but by
the time the second nine was completed the two were still tied. The reason for
the tie was Paul shot a perfect nine on the back nine of the Refugee Road
course and both players shot 26 in the playoff. The tie meant that the playoff
would continue into extra holes, which Todd defeated Paul on the 3rd
hole and won his first spot on the Great Lakes Tour.
In the match play finals Bill Thompson defeated Dave
Nutini, but since Bill already has two spots Dave was awarded the spot. This
is Dave’s first spot in the Great Lakes Tour.
In the amateur division, Mike Conklin won shooting a
score of 83 and defeated former National APA Champion Don Ferrell, but since
the two players both have 2 spots for the finals George Matthews received his
first spot for the finals. In the match play finals Mike completed the double
by defeating Scott Copeland.
The Great Lakes Tour will play its next full weekend
on August 12 and 13 in Richmond, IN.
