Todd Viau Wins 36-Hole Event in
Charleston, WV
16 September 2000 - Charleston, WV - The final qualifying event
prior to the 2000 Great Lakes Tour Championship saw Todd Viau and Paul
Pastilong jump out to the lead after 18-holes with rounds of 24.
Trailing one stroke behind at 25 was Ken Hastings followed by Kevin
Lacey, 1999 Great Lakes Tour Champion, and John Kropinak at 26.
A second and final round of 26 by Todd Viau proved enough to hold off
a group of three players, Kevin Lacey, Paul Pastilong, and Paul Johns,
who all tied for second. Viau's winning score of 50, 22-under par, gave
him the win and $130. Lacey, Pastilong, and Johns tied for second at 51,
21-under par, all received $85 for their finish. In a tied for fifth
were Charlie Greenwalt, 1999 Eastern Open Champion, and John Kropinak at
53, 19-under par.
In the amateur division, local player Terry Sanner posted a
convincing win with rounds of 27 and 26 for a two-round total of 53 and
a three shot win over John Darst and James Weber who tied for second at
56. In a three-way tie for fourth were Jeff Brown, Robin Ventura, and
Karl Moe at 57.
The Great Lakes Tour begins its Tour Championship shortly after the
conclusion of this event with the match-play portion followed by the
four-round medal play event on Sunday, 17 September 2000. A final match
featuring the winner's of the match-play and medal-play will then be
played to determine the Great Lakes Tour Champion for 2000.
