Buddy Taylor and Dave Taylor Win

Team Championship
21 August 1999 - Newport News, VA - A round of better-ball, a round of alternate shot, and
two-rounds of individual medal-play was the format to decide the 1999 Virginia Two-Person
Team Championship. In the pro division, defending champions Dave Taylor and Buddy Taylor
opened quickly shooting a better ball round of 22, 14-under par, and an alternate shot
round of 24, 12-under par, for a two-round total of 46 and a five-stroke lead over the
team of Gilbert Sharpe and Manfred Stewart.
After an hour rain delay, the individual rounds began and the team of Dave
and Buddy Taylor expanded their lead to six strokes shooting a combined total of 58 for a
four-round total of 104, 40-under par. Tied for second were the teams of Ed
Grajewski/Kevin Garrett and Rusty Taylor/Thomas Rawles. The final round saw the team of
Grajewski and Garrett pull into a tie with the Taylor team forcing an 18-hole playoff.
Team Taylor posted the victory in the playoff and claimed the $400 first place prize money
for the victory.
In the APA division, three teams were tied at 53 after the first two
round. The third and fourth rounds saw the team of Wayne Saunders and Steven Jones move
into a four-stroke lead and eventually post a five-stroke victory with a total of 173.
Finishing in second was the team of Gil Logan and Matt Summey ahead of the third place
team of Wesley Pollard and Ken Schooler.
The Elton Davis, played August 28th and 29th, in Burlington, North
Carolina is the next tournament on the North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia State
Tour schedules. The Virginia Tour returns to action the weekend of October 2nd and 3rd for
the Virginia State Championship held at the Lynchburg, Virginia Putt-Putt Golf Course.
