Greg Roberts Wins First Tour Event of Texas State Tour Season

Houston, TX - On a wet and windy Saturday in Houston, Greg Roberts survived an 18-hole playoff 29-30 over 1998 TPC champion Greg Everly of Arlington to win the 1st Texas Tour event of the season. Jeffrey Smith of Dallas, National Championship runner-up and winner of 6 tour events in Texas last season, was tied for 3rd along with current state champion Brice Bergesen and Tim Murphree from Mesquite. In match play, Brice Bergesen and Bill Florian, both from Houston, earned match play qualifying spots for state weekend.

In the APA division, local favorite Andy Gaiser came from 4 shots off the pace after 2 rounds with the lowest round of the day in either division (26) for an 89 and a 2-stroke victory over Jason Sheffield. Jeremy Tutle was 3rd with a 92. In match play Texas Open champion Randy Wimpy and former state champion Steve Willmann earned qualifying spots for the state championship.
