Pat King Wins the Texas Tour's 72-hole Event in
Austin, TX
Austin, TX - Second year PPA pro Pat King from Grand
Prairie blitzed the field for the first three rounds with an 80 and then held on to win by
one stroke over the fast charging rookie Bill Florian of Houston. King opened up a 4 shot
lead on the field when he carded a third round 24 and finished at 31-under par 113 for his
first professional victory on the Texas Putting Tour.
Florian (114), who entered the final round a seemingly insurmountable
ten shots back of the leader, closed with a 24 of his own that left him just one shot shy
of a playoff for the title. State champion Brice Bergesen finished in third place at 115
and Texas Open champion Joel Baker of Arlington was fourth at 116. With Bergesen not
attempting to qualify, the three pro medal spots for the state finals in Tyler went to
King, Florian, and Baker.
Former state champion and local favorite Steve Willmann cruised to a 5
shot victory in the APA division with a 4 round total of 16 under par 128 to earn his
first tour title of the season. Houstonian Jon Drexler's first round 38 proved costly as
he finished 5 shots back at 11 under par 133 for second place. Susan King of Mesquite was
third and claimed a medal play qualifying spot for state weekend along with Willmann and
Drexler.
