Lewis Burton Claims Sixth Career South Carolina Win in Spartanburg
Spartanburg, SC - Reigning National Champion Lewis Burton won his 6th career South Carolina Tour event with a 3 stroke victory over Greg Newport. Burton opened with a tournament low 24 on his way to a 78 for his first SC victory of the year.
Burton earns a spot in the South Carolina state championship with his win. Burton and runner-up, Greg Newport, were tied at 20-under 52 after 2 rounds, but Burton's final round 26 sealed his win. Rounding out the top five were 1996 National Champion Mike Brown, 1999 Southern Open Champion, Greg Ward, and Brian Martin. Martin's 5th place finish marked his best tournament of the year, and he earned a spot in the SC match play championship with his performance.
