Todd Fowler Wins by Two-Strokes in Rock Hill, SC Event
Rock Hill, SC - Todd Fowler recorded a wire-to-wire victory
as he recorded a two-stroke victory in the SC/NC state event in Rock Hill, SC. Opening up
a one-stroke lead after the first round with a 26, 10-under par, he widened that lead to
two-strokes with a two-round total of 50, 22-under par, with a second round 24, 12-under
par. Mike Flavin, trailing Fowler by two-strokes entering the third and final round was
only able to shoot a final round 29 and ended in third place. Randy Reeves, 1997 National Champion, three strokes off the lead
entering the final round was only able to pick up a single stroke on Fowler with a final
round 27 leaving him in solo second with a total of 80, 28-under par. Todd Fowler finished
the event with 28, 8-under par, for a total of 78, 30-under par, and a two-stroke victory
over the 46 player field.
The combined NC/SC event featured a total purse of $1,323 and was the tied
the largest professional field of the year with 46 professional teeing it up for the
event. The big prize of the weekend had yet to be contested. The Carolinas' Open, a
six-round major on the NC, SC, and VA tours tees off at 10 AM on Sunday, May 16th, and
will feature one of the stronger fields of the year on the state tours.
