Greg Ward Sweeps Weekend with Win on Blue Course in Martinez, GA
Martinez, GA - Sunday brought clear skies to the Martinez course as well as another victory for Greg Ward. Ward shot 85, 23-under par, to clip a trio of players one stroke back. Greg Newport, Dan Anders, and Lewis Burton each shot 86, 22-under par, and shared second place.
As a result of their strong finishes, Greg Newport and Dan Anders qualified for the state championship, as well as Anders qualifying for the SC Match Play Championship. The win for Ward was his record 38th win on the SC tour. Jay Klapper is second in SC history with 18 wins. Finishing in a tie for fifth were Tony Jackson, whose SC money winnings now exceed $7,500, and Robert Johnson, who assumed the overall points lead for the year. Johnson has twice before won player of the year honors. The South Carolina Tour resumes action on May 15 and 16 in Rock Hill.
The amateur portion of the South Carolina State event was won by J. L. Coffey.
