Greg Ward Wins by Three Strokes on Red Course in Martinez, GA
Martinez, GA - 1998 SC Player of the Year Greg Ward battled both rain and a strong field of 27 players to capture his first tournament victory of the year on the South Carolina Tour. Ward shot 76, 32-under par, to win by 3 strokes over Rick Baird and Darrell Britt. Last year, Ward also won the SC state event on this course with an identical score. His second round 23, 13-under par, was a tournament low with rounds of 24, 12-under par, recorded by Rick Baird and Darrell Britt who finished tied for second at 79, 29-under par.
With his win, Greg Ward qualifies for both the South Carolina State Championship and the South Carolina Match Play Championship. Robert Johnson and Dan Anders each shot 81, 27-under par, to round out the top five.
The amateur portion of the South Carolina State event was won by Stan Seethoff.
