Todd Fowler Sweeps Weekend on South Carolina State
Tour in Asheville, NC
Asheville, NC - Scores
dropped on Sunday, but no one could catch the hottest putter on the SC tour, Todd Fowler. Fowler continued his
domination of the Asheville course by shooting 78 to claim his 8th career SC victory. He
led after two rounds and was never seriously threatened in the final round. Mike Flavin
continued his strong play, but for the second day in a row was runner-up to Fowler.
A trio of players rounded out the top five, all shooting
81, including first-round leader Tony Jackson, Robert Johnson, and Frank Warren. Warren
earned a spot in the SC state and match play championships with his top five finish, and
Randal Smith claimed the state spot open to the player with the low two-day total. 27
players have now qualified for the field of 39 at the SC state championship to be held at
the treacherous Anderson, SC course.
Special thanks to the owner and managers of the Asheville
course for hosting the weekend's events. News of note: only 8 people in SC history have
more wins than Fowler...Robert Johnson extended his consecutive tournaments played streak
to 109...Mike Flavin had more second place finishes this weekend than in his entire career
(2 to 1), despite having 4 career victories...Johnson and Fowler each clinched a berth on
the inaugural South Carolina Clayton Cup team.
