Greg Ward Decimates Field On Way to 10 Stroke Victory in Anderson, SC Event
29 May 1999 - Anderson, SC - Greg Ward dominated the afternoon to win his third title of the year and 39th career SC title. Ward shot a course record 23 during his second round to cruise to an easy 10 stroke victory. The 10 stroke margin tied the all-time largest margin of victory on the SC tour. Michael Hitt finished in the runner-up spot, acing the last two holes to shoot 92. Jay Klapper finished third at 94, and Darrell Britt was fourth at 95. Five players tied for fifth at 96. Hitt's 92 allowed him to gain a spot in the state championship and the match play. Rick Rybaczek's consistent play for both tournaments also earned him a spot into the SC state championship, to be held in Anderson.
Billy Caudle won the amateur division, and Adam Smith won the Novice division. After both tournaments, Robert Johnson continued to hold his overall points lead in South Carolina, despite Greg Ward's charge to close the gap.
