Jay Klapper Wins For Second Time in
1999 on Anderson, SC Course
Anderson, SC - 4 September 1999 - Jay Klapper won his second SC tour event of the year and 20th of his career by shooting an 18-under par score of 90 at the treacherous Anderson course #2. Klapper held on, shooting a 33 in the final round, to maintain his slim second round lead. Greg Ward finished 1 stroke behind at 91. Rounding out the top five were Michael Hitt (92), Darrell Britt, Gary English, and Todd Fowler (94).
Britt's strong play enabled him to earn spots in the SC state championship and the state match play championship (in which he would claim victory).
Despite a relatively strong field, the scoring average for the morning was 100.19. There were 15 rounds over par, including 3 rounds in the 40s.
In the amateur division, Tommy Hutchinson won with a score of 94, 14-under, with Billy Caudle and Brian Hutchins tied for second at 100, 8-under par.
