Michael Hitt Wins by 5 Strokes in Lumberton, NC

Lumberton, NC - Michael Hitt, holding a two-stroke lead after 36 holes, fired a tournament low 24, 12-under par, final round to finish off his 5 stroke victory at the Lumberton, NC Putt-Putt Golf Course. Hitt's score of 53, 19-under par, through 36 holes put him two-strokes ahead of a group of players including Randy Reeves, Robert Johnson, Andy Coradini, Rick Baird, Randal Smith, and Kevin Lacey.

The winning score of 77 marked the third consecutive NC state event won with a score in the 70's. It also marked the first NC state event not won by Kevin Lacey in 1999. Lacey, tied for second at 55 after 36 holes, could only manage a 31, 5-under par, in his third round and fell into a tie for seventh with Randal Smith who also shot 31 in his third round.

The NC tour moves on to the White Lake course on Sunday, April 18, for another 54-hole NC State Event. Upcoming events on the NC tour include the Old Pro Classic in Fayetteville, NC on Friday, April 23rd, teeing off at 9 AM. The first National event of the year, the 1999 Eastern Open, will be played in Fayetteville, NC on Saturday and Sunday, April 24th and 25th. Greg Ward will be defending his title that he won in Lynchburg, VA last year in a hard fought finish over his close friend Andy Coradini.
