Coradini Charges to Victory in Final Round in High
Point, NC
High Point, NC - The High Point, NC course, long
known for its fast carpet, was tamed with new carpet but proved to be still be a challenge
for the players as the winning score of 81, 27-under par, attests. After two rounds of
play, Rick Baird at 52, 20-under par, held a slender one-stroke lead over Bob Haizlip.
Lurking three strokes off the lead at 55, 17-under par, was Andy Coradini. Coradini used a
final round of 24 the day before in Martinsville, VA to move into the prize money. Today,
Coradini used a final round of 26, 10-under par, to pass Baird and Haizlip and claim at
two-stroke victory.
The victory was Coradini's first NC State tour win of 1999 and moved him
to the top of the NC Points standings and money winnings at 260.5 points and $806.
Gary Hester closed quickly with a final round of 24, 12-under par,
matching the final round of 24 he shot the day before in Martinsville, VA to close that
tournament. Matching Hester at 84, 24-under par, was Bill Kirby, Jr. who posted consistent
rounds of 29-28-27 for a total of 84. Rounding out the top ten were Michael Hitt, Todd
Barfield, and C. L. Jones at 86 and Fred Hallaman and Chris Bunting at 87. Total prize
money for the event was $1,014 on entry fees of $1,240.
The NC State tour takes the Memorial Day weekend off before returning to
action on June 5 and 6 in Asheville, NC with a weekend of co-sponsored events with the SC
State tour. The SC State tour will be in action on Saturday, May 29, with a double-header
in Anderson, SC. The Great Lakes tour will also be in action on the Memorial Day
weekend
in Charleston, WV, site of the 1999 Northern Open in August. |
