Danny McCaslin Wins 1999 Orange Lake Open Orlando, FL - 14 September 1999 - Danny McCaslin's opening round of 23, 13-under par, put in a tie for the lead with Lewis Burton and Mike Brown, who have both won National Championships on this course in 1998 and 1996 respectively. McCaslin's second round of 28, 8-under par, on the Fountain course once again put in a tie for the lead with Mike Brown entering the final round on the Magnolia course.
A final round of 26, 10-under par, gave Danny McCaslin a three round total of 77, 31-under par, and two-stroke victory over a group of four players who tied for second at 79, 29-under par. Finishing in the tie for second were Lewis Burton, the 1998 National Champion, Randy Reeves the 1997 National Champion, Mike Brown, the 1996 National Champion, and Greg Ward, the 1999 Southern Open and 1999 Western Open Champion. David McCaslin and Bart Bason tied for sixth at 80, 28-under par, and Jim Heikkinen was eight at 82, 26-under par. Danny McCaslin's win gave him a spot in the Western Open TV bracket. Lewis Burton earned a spot in the Eastern Open TV bracket. In the amateur division, 1998 APA National Champion Jeff Brown used rounds of 28, 29, 28 for a total of 85 to post a two-stroke victory. Finishing in second was Robb Titchell at 87 followed by Ray Guthrie in third at 88. |
