$3,000 Putt-Putt Challenger Shootout

The Putt-Putt Challenger Shootout, originally scheduled for September 1998 and rescheduled to April 1999 due to inclement weather, has been increased from $2,000 to $3,000. The shootout will be filmed on Thursday, April 22, at the Putt-Putt Golf & Games facility at 3208 Putt-Putt Place in Fayetteville, North Carolina. A total of 33 professionals have qualified for this event by being shooting the low round during a National event in 1998. These 33 players will play down to a single winner who will claim the entire $3,000 purse in this event.

Putt-Putt Challenger Shootout Rules for Play

  1. All play will be governed by the PPA official rulebook. The following rules are a supplement to the official rulebook to assist in governing play during the 1999 Putt-Putt Challenger Shootout tournament. In accordance with the official rulebook of the PPA, all decisions of the tournament director will be final.

  2. The prize money will be three thousand dollars ($3,000.00). The winner of the tournament will claim the entire purse.

  3. Thirty-three players (33) have qualified for the event and no other players will be admitted.

  4. During competition, players will be eliminated from play upon any occurrence of the following:

    1. A player commits any rule infraction as so specified in the PPA rulebook.

    2. A player takes the highest number of strokes on a hole of play. The furthest linear distance between the front edge of the cup to the player's ball on their last shot will determine tie scores on every hole.

  5. Eighteen (18) players will advance to the television taping of the 1999 Putt-Putt Challenger Shootout. Those eighteen (18) players will be determined by process of elimination in a three (3) hole play-down on the morning of the tournament prior to the television taping of the 1999 Putt-Putt Challenger Shootout.

  6. A maximum of five (5) players per hole will be eliminated from the play-down until only eighteen (18) players remain in the 1999 Putt-Putt Challenger Shootout competition.

  7. After the final eighteen (18) players have been determined for the 1999 Putt-Putt Challenger Shootout, one (1) player will eliminated on each hole until a winner is determined.

  8. Each of the eighteen (18) players remaining in the 1999 Putt-Putt Challenger Shootout agree to play for a representative of the 1999 Dogwood festival. The eventual winner of the Putt-Putt Challenger Shootout will also earn $1,000 for a matched fan as a result of this draw.

  9. Participants in the 1999 Putt-Putt Challenger Shootout will be announced from the first tee in seed order. That order will be determined by their score and date of round for their medalist qualifying round that earned them entry into the 1999 Putt-Putt Challenger Shootout.

  10. Honors on each successive hole of play in the 1999 Putt-Putt Challenger Shootout will cycle to the next highest-ranking player who has not been eliminated from play.

* A player's badge designating those players competing in the 1999 Putt-Putt Challenger Shootout will be sent to those players who have qualified under a separate cover.
