Bill Thompson Wins Great Lakes Event at Willoughby, OH
Course
Willoughby, OH - Saturday was a clear hot day and so was
the putting. Bill Thompson, a 1998
National Pro, won the first Great Lakes Tournament of 1999. Thompson shot 81, 27-under
par, to clip a pair of 1999 National Pros Tom
Butler and Kevin Lacey. Both players
shot 82, 26-under par, and shared second place.
As a result of his win, Bill Thompson was the first qualifier for the
Great Lakes Championship. In the 16-player match play Tom Butler won the match-play finals
and qualified for the championship finals. The Great Lakes Tour resumes action on May
15-16 in Erie, PA.
Mike Conklin bested the field in the first APA Great Lakes Tournament of
1999. Conklin shot 87, 21-under par. As a result of his win, Mike Conklin was the first
qualifier for the APA Great Lakes Championship. In the 16-player match play Jeff Brown won
the match-play finals and qualified for the championship finals. The Great Lakes Tour
resumes action on May 15-16 in Erie, PA.
