Mott Wins 1998 Woods and Gray Open

Lake Resort & Country Club - Orlando, FL - Rookie National Pro, Jimmy Mott of Charlotte,
NC, put together consistent rounds of 26, 26, 25 Wednesday, September 16, 1998, in the
$2,000 Woods & Gray Open at Orange Lake Resort & Country Club for a total of 77,
31 under par. His consistency paid off, giving him the victory by one stroke.
"I was confident and hit the ball solid all day," says Mott, who
earned $300. "I was fortunate and did not have any bad breaks.

Kirby, Jr., of Fayetteville, NC 1995 PPA National Champion, earned second at 78
winning $175 each. Greg
Roberts of Pasadena, TX, and Greg Newport of Liberty,
NC, claimed third at 79 earning $112.50 each. Rounding out the top ten were Tom Butler of Erlanger, KY,
Paul Johns of Gahanna,
OH, Gary Hester of
Thomasville, NC at 80 and Cliff Matthews of
Hurst, TX, Larry Simpson
of Elon College, NC, Roger Beckerman of South Euclid, OH, and Michael Hitt of Greensboro,
NC, scoring 81.
While Mott led the way in the professional division, William Glisson, Jr.
of Martinez, GA, won the Amateur Putters Association category with a 54 hole score of 80.
"I'm extremely pleased with my playing. I think it is possible I can play this well
in the Nationals," Glisson said. Ken Hastings of Pittsburgh, PA, and Craig Williams,
also of Pittsburgh, shared second with a score of 85.
Mike Fowler of Greer, SC, won the Novice Division with a 97 total for 54
holes. Nathan Washburn, member of the Junior Putters Assocation of America team from
Lynchburg, VA, came in second with 104. Nathan also competed in the JPA National
Championship taped for ESPN on Thursday, September 17, at Orange Lake Resort & Country
Club.
