Dore Wins Richmond $5,000 to Gain TV Spot
Richmond, VA - There's an old adage that says "one,
two, three times a charm" and that's exactly what
Danny Dore was hoping as
competition began on Saturday, July 26th, at the Richmond, VA course. Having already won
in Richmond, VA twice in the previous years (each time qualifying for a coveted television
spot on the National Television Series) Dore had high hopes of doing the same again.
After two days of close competition, Dore and
Mike Brown, current
National Champion, were tied for first place at the beginning of the final round of
competition. Both, determined to win, battled throughout the eighth round exchanging the
lead three times before Dore pulled away from Brown on the final nine holes. Acing eight
of the final nine holes, Dore finished round eight with a score of 22, putting him six
strokes ahead of Brown and matching the course record.
Dore's victory Sunday (July 27th) guarantees him a position
in the 1997 nationally televised series - something Dore is looking forward to. "I
was on the television show last year and did very well, winning over $10,000 in one day.
I'm looking forward to teeing it up."
As Dore prepares for his third televised competition, to be
held this year at the Orange Lake Resort & Country
Club in September, one can't held but wonder ... will the third time again be a
charm for Dore? |
