L. Jones Winner of the 1997 Orange Lake Classic
Orlando, FL - We now know the "C" in
C. L. Jones stands for
Classic. Jones, National PPA Touring Pro from Danville, VA, came from behind to win
Tuesday's $2,000 tournament and claim the $300 first prize money. Jones defeated second
place finisher, Kevin Lacey,
by two shots and Regional Pro, Michael Hitt, from Greensboro, NC by three shots.
Jone put together two final rounds of 24 each to claim the
title. Jones said ,"I knew when I shot the first 24 I had to stick to my guns. After
I shot the second 24, I knew I had it in the bag."
In APA action, Jeff Brown, from North Olmsted, Ohio
recorded a 29, 27, 25 for a total of 81 to narrowly take the victory by one stroke. Brown
held on to defeat challenges from Jim Russell from West Lake, Ohio and Jim Cruse from
Baltimore, Ohio.
A total of 66 pros competed in the Classic, which was a
warm up lead-in to the 1997 National Championship.
