David McCaslin Comes From Behind to Win Columbus
$5,000
Columbus, OH -
David McCaslin,
Melbourne Beach, FL, came from behind to win the $5,000 Columbus Open held Saturday and
Sunday, July 12-13, 1997. When tournament play resumed on Sunday,
Lewis Burton from
Lawrenceville, GA was leading the field by one stroke. Atlanta's
Darrell Britt and North
Carolinian Larry Simpson
were in a tie for second. McCaslin trailed by nine strokes.
Burton and Britt continued to maintain the lead throughout
Sunday's competition until the final round with scores of 183 and 185 respectively.
McCaslin, however, had closed the gap with a tournament low of 22 to hold third place,
just three stroke off the lead.
"Ever since I went to a Ping putter, I've been trying
to get my feel back," states McCaslin. By the final round of Sunday competition,
McCaslin apparently was back in full force. A sizzling score of 23 won the round and the
tournament by one stroke. "It feels good to win again." McCaslin's performance
in Columbus nets him a spot on the nationally televised series later this year. For
McCaslin, this will be his second television opportunity. "I'm back on TV. That was
my game."
Lewis Burton finished the tournament in second place, with
Darrell Britt following one stroke behind in third. |
