Danny McCaslin Wins Atlanta, GA Open $2,000
Suwannee, GA - Danny McCaslin of Melbourne Beach, FL, defeated longtime pro Dan Anders in an 18-hole playoff on July 22, 1997 to win the $2,000 Atlanta Open, one of 11 events on the $105,000 1997 PPA tour.
McCaslin claimed a 1-stroke victory with a 27 in the playoff over Anders, the 1975 World Champion runner-up from Columbus, GA. McCaslin and Anders were tied after regulation at 76, 32-under par, after three rounds on the recently opened facility owned by Rick and Leslie Herbert. Winner of the 1996 PPA Commissioner's Cup title, McCaslin posted regulation scores of 26, 22, and 28. He earned $300 and 50 points toward the $36,000 PPA skins television series elimination playoff. Anders had regulation scores of 25, 25, and 26 and won $200. Andy Coradini, Jay Klapper, Kevin Lacey, and Bo Luthie each scored 77 and won $118.75 each. |
