Statum Claims Victory at Arlington $2,000
Arlington, TX - Veteran
Rainey Statum was the
model of consistency on July 20, 1997, as the Kingwood, TX pro posted rounds of 27, 27,
and 27 for an 81 total, 27-under par, to win the $2,000 Arlington Open.
A former Texas State Champion, Statum overcame a 2-stroke
deficit entering the final round of the 54-hole event to take a 3-stroke victory over
defending PPA National Champion, Mike Brown, of
Philadelphia, PA.
"Anytime you win in your home state it is an
honor," said Statum, who earned $300 and 50 points toward the $36,000 PPA Skins
elimination playoff scheduled for September 8-13, 1997, at
Orange Lake Resort & Country Club in Orlando, FL.
Brown earned $200 for his second-place finish. Journeyman
Brad Lebo, of Philadelphia,
PA, finished third at 85 with rounds of 31, 28, and 26 for an 85 total and $150.
