Greg Newport Wins $1,500 Charlotte Open

newport.jpg (7478 bytes)Charlotte, NC - Greg Newport broke out of a three-way tie after two-round of play shooting a 14-under par, 22, in third and final of play for a four stroke victory in the $1,500 Charlotte Open held on Saturday, June 8th, 1996.

Both Dean Dwiggins and Kevin Lacey, tied with Newport after two rounds, were only able to shoot 9-under par, 27, in their final rounds and finished in a third place tie with Danny Dore and Randy Reeves. Larry Simpson, two stroke off the lead entering the final round, shot a 24, 12-under par, to finish in second place.

Greg Newport earned $250 for his first place finish and valuable points for the year-end television playoffs to be held at Orange Lake Resort & Country Club in September 1996.
