Neumann Wins 1995 Virginia Open

VA - Peter Neumann
opened the 1995 Virginia with a hot putter shooting a 10, 8-under par, on the front nine
in the first round on his way to a 22, 14-under par, first round. His second and third
rounds of 25 and 24 respectively included a 10, 8-under par, on the back nine of the
second round left him at 71, 37-under par, for the first three rounds.
Trailing by 4 strokes entering the fourth and final round was Dane
Jorgensen who finished his third round of 23, 13-under par, with a 10, 8-under par, on the
back nine. During the 1995 Virginia Open, a total of four 10's were recorded, two by Peter
Neumann and one each by Dane Jorgensen and Dennis Webber. Coincidentally, Dane Jorgensen
and Dennis Webber were playing together in a two-some and shot theirs 10's on the back
nine of the third round.
Mike Brown,
Virginia Open Champion in 1992 and 1993, made the strongest charge in the fourth round
shooting a 24, 12-under par, finishing at 100, 44-under par, for four rounds of play.
Peter Neumann shot a 28 for a total of 99, 45-under par, to finish one stroke ahead of the
fast charging Mike Brown and two ahead of Dane Jorgensen who finished at 101, 43-under
par. Defending Virginia Open Champion Greg Newport struggled in
the second and third rounds shooting 30 and 29 respectively to finish tied for sixth at
107, 37-under par, along with Todd Barfield. The win
at the 1995 Virginia Open was Neumann's first since returning to the game after a
self-imposed retirement in May 1991.
