trophy from Joe Aboid, National Tournament Director. |
Augusta, GA - Tom Butler of Erlanger, KY
won the Pro Division of the 1990 PPA Commissioner's Cup Tournament. Butler completed the
two day, six round event with a score of 169, 47 under par. 1988 Commissioner's Cup
Champion, Greg Ward,
finished in second place with a score of 172, 44 under par, while Peter Neumann of State
College, PA took home third place honors with a score of 175, 41 under par.
Butler started the second day of competition two strokes behind first day
leader Edgar Hollifield of Bostic, North Carolina, and trailing Greg Ward by 1 stroke.
With Hollifield struggling during the second day of competition, Butler found himself four
strokes down to Ward with two rounds remaining. Butler then fired a fifth round score of
25 to Ward's 29, to leave both putters tied for the lead at 37 under par heading into the
final eighteen holes of play. Butler, playing one group and two holes ahead of Ward, aced
the final hole for a final round score of 26, to shut out Ward whose final round score of
29 was good for second place.
In the APA division, Don Shepherd of Richmond, VA successfully defended
his title with an eighteen hole playoff victory over Brad Lebo of Philadelphia,
PA and Robby Bryant of Martinez, GA. Shepherd completed the six round tournament with a
score of 179, in a tie with Brad Lebo and Robby Bryant to set up the eighteen hole
playoff. In the playoff, Shepherd shot a 28, while Brad Lebo shot a 33 and Robby Bryant
shot a 34.
In the Novice Division, Chris Day of Blythe, GA captured the title with a
