Ed Haggerty scored holes-in-one on his first 10 holes of an 18-hole
playoff and went on to post a three stroke victory over Gastonia, N.C. pro Randy Stone to
claim the $10,000 Professional Putters Association Carolinas Open Championship.
Haggerty and Stone both finished at 202, 86 under par, after eight rounds of regulation
play in this, the final PPA tour event of the season. Former World Champion Buddy Taylor of
Baltimore, Md., was third at 204, followed by ex-two time World Champion Dick Florin or
Atlanta, Ga., at 205.
In the Amateur Putters Association, 17-year-old high school senior David McCaslin of
Memphis, Tenn., took top honors with an amateur record score of 196, 92 under par and a
12-stroke victory. Alan Quinnelly of Atlanta, Ga., and Steve Arnold of Charlotte, N.C.
tied for second at 208, 80 under par.
