Indianapolis, IN – Mike Sherrill, from Atlanta, GA, sunk a 30 foot uphill putt on his final hole to win the eight-round medal play $10,000 PPA Northern Open held in Indianapolis, IN, June 14 and 15, 1980. Sherrill's 228, 60 under par, gave him his first tournament win.

Marc Portugal, of Waco, TX, missed #18 by 2 inches and took second place with 229. Portugal won the $10,000 PPA Western Open held in Hurst, TX, in April.

Jeff Estep, the defending 1979 PPA Northern Open Champion, took third with 231. Bill Kirby, of Fayetteville, N.C., won fourth place with 232.

In the amateur division, Shawn Gilliland of Indianapolis, IN, won with 236, and Terry Phillips of Gastonia, N.C. took second place with 238.
