Hurst, TX – Jim Borchelt of Cincinnati, OH edged out Robert Smith, of Dallas, TX, by one-stroke to win the $2,000 Qualifying Tournament held April 15 at the Hurst, TX Putt-Putt Golf Course. Borchelt's 29-under par 79 in the 54-hole tournament won him $1,000 and a spot in the 1980 Super Putters TV Series.

Forty-seven pros were testing their skills in the Hurst tourney to win the chance to appear on the TV show, produced by the Professional Putters Association. Borchelt is the 1977 National Champion.
