Jeff Estep Wins $10,000 PPA Northern Open

Dayton, OH - 7-8 July 1979 - 17-year old pro Jeff Estep ran away with the lead in the Dayton, OH $10,000 Northern Open at Harold Barnett's Putt-Putt July 7-8, and even seasoned pros could not catch up with this young regional player.

Commanding a six stroke lead, with 40 under par after the first day of play, the Dayton local blazed to a first place finish with a 217, 71 under par, setting a new course record.

Rex Thayer, also a Dayton man, was the closest competitor to Estep Saturday, finishing with a 34 under, but fell behind to twelfth place in Sunday's competition.
