Reed Wins $3,000 Atlanta, GA
Southern Open

Atlanta, GA - June 10-11, 1961 - The PPA $3,000 Southern Open ended up in a deadlock at 252, 36 under par today with Frank Holt of Savannah, Georgia, 1960 leading money winner, and Pete Reed, Delta Airline employee of Atlanta, Georgia, being forced to play an 18 hole playoff for first place money and the Southern Open Crown.

On rain swept carpet before a large gallery, Holt went one up on the first hole and held his advantage matching shots with Reed through the 15th hole. Holt then took a bogey on the 15th hole to cause the match to move into a deadlock again after 139 holes. On the 17th hole of the playoff round Reed scored a hole in one and Holt was forced to settle for two thereby giving the winning edge of one stroke to the Atlanta pro. Third place was Daryl Freeman of Bristol, Tenn. with a 253, 35 under par, for a $300 prize, followed by the two well known PPA Pros, Condy Roberson of Savannah, Ga. and Neil Connor, 1960 National Champion and winner of last week's $2,000 Orlando Open.
