Staggs Winner of $1,100 Kingsport, TN Tourney

Kingsport, TN - July 22-23, 1961 - Claude Staggs of Manassas, Virginia got an almost unbelievable 32-under par 184 in 108 holes of medal play in a $1,100 putting tournament at the Kingsport Putt-Putt Course Saturday and Sunday, July 22-23, 1961. Staggs turned in rounds of 33-28-32-36-26-29 to collect $500 first place prize money. Trailing by one stroke and taking second place money was Jan Bowman of Bristol, Tennessee who shot a 31-under par 185.

The pair thrilled the crowd as each putter reached 25-under par and kept dropping aces one after the other. Staggs needed an ace to win and got it on the final hole to give him a total of 40 aces for the 108 holes and the $100 for the most holes-in-one.

Next Tournament Stop - August 5-6 Montgomery, Alabama $2,500

The next stop in the 1961 series of PPA National Tournaments will be held on the Putt-Putt Golf Course located at 100 Coliseum Blvd., Montgomery, Ala. The entry fee for this tournament is $6.00. The recommended motel is the Coliseum Motel located U. S. 231 North. Qualifying rounds will begin promptly at 2:00 PM. All pros must be registered prior to this time.
