$2,000 El Paso, Texas International Open Won by Ron Slocumb

El Paso, TX - August 19-20, 1961 - Ron Slocumb of Columbus, Georgia brought his total winnings to $1,900 by taking first place in the PPA $2,000 International Open in this city August 19-20. Ronnie led for 7 out of 8 rounds to become the second PPA player to lead the first days rounds and go on to win the tournament. His total for the 144 holes was 251, 37 under par. First place prize money was $1,000. LeRoy Cooper of East Point, Georgia took second place and $500 with a 256, 32 under par. Third place went to Chuck Schaffer with a 258, 30 under par.

In the amateur division, Jerry Brownlou of El Paso took first place with a 276, 12 under par, to win over second place Charles O'Riley who had a 278, 10 under par.

To add to the tension, Sunday's 72 holes were played in a driving wind storm which made playing conditions very difficult.

The final tournament of the 1961 PPA tournament schedule will be held on the Putt-Putt Golf Course located at 12605 Ventura Blvd., Studio City, California. The entry fee for this tournament is $8.00. Qualifying rounds will begin promptly at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 26. All pros must be registered prior to that time.
