Lehman Key Wins
$2,500 Baton Rouge Tourney

Baton Rouge, LA - August 12-13, 1961 - Lehman Key, Lakes Charles, Louisiana Pro, was victorious over 79 other tournament entrants on the Baton Rouge, Louisiana Putt-Putt Golf Course during the PPA $2,500 tournament held there on August 12-13, 1961. Key shot a 29 under par with his 259 for the 144 hole route for first place money of $1,000.

Frank Overstreet, a Birmingham, Alabama Pro, trailed Lehman Key and shot a 261, 27 under par, for second place money of $500. Ron Slocumb of Columbus, Georgia took third place with a 265, 23 under par, for prize money of $250.

In the amateur division, Brandon Kerchau took first place with a 281 and was awarded a beautiful trophy.

El Paso, Texas - $2,500 El Paso Open

The next stop in the series of 1961 PPA National Tournaments will be on the Putt-Putt Golf Course located at 9318 Dyer Street, El Paso, Texas. Entry fee for this tournament is $4.00. Qualifying rounds will begin promptly at 2 P.M. Saturday, August 19. All pros must be registered prior to this time. Recommended hotels are as follows:

  • Colonia Motel - 8601 Dyer Street

  • Beverly Crest Motel - 8709 Dyer Street

  • Hawaiian Royal Motel - 8735 Dyer Street

Mid-Week Tournament

The last in the 1961 series of mid week tournaments will be held on the Putt-Putt Golf Course located at 75 Oak Park Blvd. and Highway 75, Lake Charles, Louisiana. This will be a $500 tournament. Entry fee is $2.00.
