Condy Roberson Wins First Place in Arlington Tourney

Arlington, VA - June 24-25, 1961 - Consistent Condy Roberson of Savannah, Georgia who averaged 33.04 strokes per round through the first three tournaments of 1961 for the second lowest average of all touring pros, lowered his average to 32 strokes per round for the 8 rounds of the Arlington, Virginia $2,500 Open to take first place money with a 256, 36 under par. Roberson, a veteran putting pro with 8 years practice behind him and two full seasons f tournament competition, won his first national PPA tournament and $1,000 of prize money in the Arlington affair.

Ken Boy, National Record Holder from Bristol, Tennessee who stroked a 21 in 1958 for the all time record for 18 holes, shot a 258, 30 under par, for second place and was followed by LeRoy Cooper of East Point, Georgia and Chuck Schaffer from Augusta, Georgia who tied for third place at 28 under par with 260, good for $187.50 each.

The touring pros travel from Arlington to Cincinnati, Ohio for the big event of the year, the $7,500 PPA National Championship Open to be held on July 3 & 4. The Cincinnati affair will offer the largest purse ever offered in America in a putting tournament. A field of approximately 400 is expected. Neil Connor, 1960 National Champion will be defending his title.

The next in the series of 1961 PPA tournaments will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio July 3-4 at the Putt-Putt Golf Course located at 16 Sunnybrook Road. The entry fee for this tournament is $10.00. Qualifying rounds will begin at 2:00 PM. All pros must be registered prior to this time.

The recommended motel is the Carrousel Motel, Reading Road, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Mid-Week Tourney

There is a mid-week tournament scheduled in Detroit, MI at the Putt-Putt Golf Course located at 3660 South Dixie Highway, Drayton Plains on July 6. Please plan to participate.
